A Holiday Message to the Drivers of Trucks. A colorful vintage poster based on an ad that appeared in the late 1930's celebrating Kingan's 116th International Truck. Samuel Kingan, along with his two bothers, Thomas and John, opened their first meat packing plant in Belfast, Ireland in 1845. The firm prospered selling pork products to the British Navy. The 1840's were a decade of famine in Ireland and Kingan's plant was pressured to increase its supplies to British markets in order to fill the gap left by the potato famine. In 1851, the firm opened a plant in Brooklyn, New York. Two years later, they opened another plant in Cincinatti, Ohio, long known as a major meat-packing center. In 1862, after both plants burned down, the Kingan brothers opened a third American plant in Indianapolis. Within a few years after Kingan's opened in Indianapolis, it was one of the largest meat packing plants in the world and would remain one of the largest for decades. The company lasted just over a century.
